Transport Updates

Bus Back Better—Dorset’s response to HMG’s call for bus service improvements
Dorset Council must develop a Bus Service Improvement Plan in response to the UK Government's Bus Back Better strategy. Dorset Council have set up a survey, both online and paper, which closes on 27th August.
  • If the car parking strategy is designed to encourage more use of public transport by increasing the costs of using private transport, then we need to have a useable public transport service in West Dorset.
  • If we want to reduce the carbon footprint of transport, then we need a viable and effective public transport service.
  • If Dorset Council’s aim is to place development in Bridport and Lyme Regis as our local services hubs, then we need a viable and reasonably priced public transport system to access them.

Please take a few minutes to respond to the survey - it will help to get the right strategy for Dorset and shows that residents of our parishes are interested and willing to help with important issues for our future.
  1. You can respond online here:     Survey to find out how local bus services can be improved
  2.  or you can download the survey from the link above and send it by email to busbackbetter@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk
  3. or you can telephone your response to Owen Clark at Dorset Council on 01305 228227
  4.  or you can contact CVPC through our Councillor, Chris Noon at chrisnooncvpc@outlook.com  or our clerk, Tamsin at charvalley@dorset-aptc.gov.uk, with your views on local public transport and what would make you use a local bus service instead of driving, and we will present those to Dorset Council.
NEWS:
  • CVPC has responded to the A35 Charmouth to Yellowham Hill Scheme for safety and associated improvements through Morcombelake. See our response here.

  • Dorset Council have an interactive cycle map on their website, here. Maps are available for Lyme Regis, Bridport and surrounding towns and villages.

  • Traveline South West was set up by local authorities, is updated weekly, and provides real-time bus and train information as well as an enhanced journey planner.

ROAD CLOSURES

  • Taphouse Lane, Whitchurch Canonicorum, Bridport - 10  April to 12 May
We are replacing a small masonry culvert located next to Taphouse Farm approximately 2 miles north of Whitchurch Canonicorum. The existing culvert is in a poor condition so we propose strengthening it by forming a reinforced concrete slab over the top. At the same time, we will carry out repairs to the upstream walls. A short diversion will be in place to keep disruption to a minimum.
  • PROPOSED WORKS IN YOUR AREA - Westover Bridge, Westover Hill, Wootton Fitzpaine. Between 15th May 2023 and 16th June 2023. The road
    will be closed daily.
  • PROPOSED TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF WOOTTON HILL, FISHPOND. WOOTTON HILL, FISHPOND between its junction with Long Lane and a
point approximately 60 metres north west. These works are programmed to commence between 0900 and 1200 on 16 May 2023.
  • PROPOSED TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF CHAMPERNHAYES LANE, WOOTTON FITZPAINE between its junction with Spence Lane and the entrance to Marsh Farm. These works are programmed to commence between 0930 and 1530 on 05 May 2023.
  • A30/A35 Road Closure. Exeter to Bere Regis. 16th March to 1st April between 20.22-06.00. CVPC have made enquiries into the access for residents and have the following information from the contractor:There will be gates and the men will let residents through. The first 2 days access from Bridport end and the other days from Charmouth. From National Highways: Local residents will be able to approach a gateway and be informed as to how far they can go along the A35 safely until a section of road works is encountered. Motorists will be advised that they should not exceed 30mph as the road is an active construction zone. If a resident's house is cut-off completely by the works, they will be able to approach the section and leave their cars in a safe position to walk home, if safe. We will inform our residents of this and request that a) they behave respectfully and drive safely; and b) report any occasions when this policy is not followed.
