River Char Community Project
How you can help:
- To join our River Char Community Project, email our Clerk, Tamsin: [email protected]
- To join Charmouth’s Community Project to clean up the river, visit www.riverchar.org
- If you’ve got a septic tank/cesspit/sewage treatment plant, help keep the river free of sewage by maintaining your tank. See www.charvalley.org/sewage
- If you’ve got an hour a month to monitor the water quality in the river, email [email protected]
- Walk the river if you can. It’s beautiful. But it needs our help. If you see anything interesting (kingfisher, otter, water vole…) or worrying (pollution, mink, algal bloom ...) let us know – with a photo if possible. Again, email: [email protected]
- The Wessex Water Guardians initiative is also run by Dorset Wildlife Trust with funding from Wessex Water. Do sign up if you’re interested: https://www.dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk/things-do/volunteering/water-guardians
PLEASE empty your septic tank regularly and help keep the river clean
Overflowing, leaking and damaged septic tanks are a significant source of pollution in the River Char. We can all help by keeping our own tank working well and emptied regularly. (Whatever your dad says, septic tanks need emptying at least every 2 years if they're to work properly.) We've gathered useful information to help you look after your septic tank better. See it here.
